List of PS2 Hardware RevisionsEdit

  • Original case design - The launch model of the PS2 in 2000.
  • PSX - Not to be confused with PS1's other nickname. Available since 2003, only in Japan. The PSX can be used as a digital video recorder (DVR) and DVD burner. It is also the first of Sony's platforms to use the XrossMediaBar (XMB) user interface that later PSP, PS3 and other devices. This model did not come with a controller packed in, a special white controller had to been bought separately, yet ports for the original controllers can still be used.
  • Slimline - Available since 2004. This revision is smaller in size, lighter in weight and quieter than the original case design. It also has a built-in Ethernet port and modified Multitap. However it does not have the Expansion bay (thus no internal hard disk drive) and no internal power supply.
  • Sony BRAVIA KDL22PX300 - Available since 2010, in Europe. BRAVIA is a 22in 720p TV with built in PS2.
